We recognise that social justice is a new area for many businesses, and nobody will get it right every time. It is the will to improve and learn from our mistakes that will transform the world for the better.
To help, we have compiled some of the best resources and will review them regularly as new insights are gained and systems for social justice are trailed. We are also eager to hear your thoughts and have our ideas challenged so we can improve the Charter and support signatories.
It is our hope that by signing this public commitment, organisations will not just see a marketing opportunity, but be equipped with the means to improve the lives of all their stakeholders and society.
We have no time to waste; we are in the United Nation’s Decade of Action. The UN has set out 17 Sustainable Development Goals in many areas including fairness, well-being, and collaboration. These social, environmental, and economic goals are so interconnected that when we contribute to one, it helps with another. We are calling on all organisations to sign the Social Justice Charter and use their reach and influence to encourage others to do the same. Only together can we build a just world for generations.
The Governing Committee provides oversight for the Social Justice Charter and commit to the following actions:
The Governing Committee are formed of the Secretariat, elected members, and the Chair of each Steering Group.
>The Secretariat will be responsible for the administration and continual update of the Charter, its stakeholders, and its resources.
>Elected members are decided by the Governing Committee, and checked, signed off, and approached by the Secretariat. There is a £5,000 annual fee to be an elected member of the Governing Committee to assist with Charter management. The number of elected members is limited to five.
>The Chair of each Steering Group will be responsible for the administration of their steering group and setting their two-year agenda during their tenure as Chair. The Chairs will also attend Governing Committee meetings to update the Governing Committee on Steering Group agendas and progress.
